Salee Allawe lost both legs in a 2006 airstrike. She was playing hopscotch with her brother, sister, and friends outside her home in Hasswa, Iraq when the missile struck. Her brother and best friend were both killed, and her sister severely injured.
Salee was eight years old.
In 2007, No More Victims brought Salee to Shriners Hospital in Greenville, South Carolina for surgery and prosthetics. No More Victims also brought her back to Shriners several times for prosthetic refittings as she grew up. In the fall of 2023, at the age of 26, she got married to Abed in Erbil, Iraq.
Now, Salee’s prosthetic devices are worn out and need to be replaced. They often cause her intense pain and increase the risk of tissue breakdown and infection. The medical services Salee needs are not available to her in Iraq.
Today, nearly 20 years after her first treatment at Shriners, No More Victims has brought Salee back to Greenville for a new pair of legs.
Salee will be fitted with prosthetic devices at Hanger Clinic in Greenville. A charity in Kansas City, Missouri, has covered the cost of her prosthetic devices.
But we need your help. NMV is paying all travel costs for Salee and her husband, including flights, lodgings, meals, ground transportation, and other daily living expenses, during a treatment period of sixty days.
Your donation will make it possible for Salee to walk again without pain. Please donate today.
